Choosing your VoIP Equipment

In the past year, VoIP equipment sales went up by 36%, showing that people all over the world are  welcoming the next generation of phone technology.

VoIP equipment allows phone calls to be transmitted over broadband internet connections. The Skype software which offers free calls over the internet is one service which uses VoIP equipment. Google and Yahoo use the same technology to offer their own computer to computer phone call service to its users.

These large companies cannot afford to offer poor services — their acceptance of this technology  shows that the VoIP equipment provides the quality and reliability that every consumer desires.

Reportedly Sony is working on a new piece of VoIP equipment: a combination of a mouse and a USB phone handset.  It will be set up to work with Skype and other services.  The clamshell mouse can flip open to become a lightweight VoIP phone for computer-based phone services.  Its features include:

* A hands free speaker phone
* A scroll wheel which doubles as a volume controller
* A blue LED and an optional ring tone to alert the user to incoming calls

VoIP technology has been around since about 1970 but has really started to grow recently with the widespread availability of broadband internet.  Now more VoIP equipment is available all the time.

VoIP has drawn significant attention from large corporations, because of its high performance and quality, not to mention the cost.  VoIP equipment and services are easy to install and customize, even for the technophobic, and using the system is as easy as using traditional phones. Residential customers don’t even need to change their phone or number, as VoIP equipment can be configured to suit any existing system.

Speaking on the phone does not interfere with the use of the internet, nor does internet use interfere with call quality. However, if the internet connection fails, the phone service does too. This inconvenience can be offset by ensuring the household has at least one working cell phone.

The most common subject of concern for businesses switching to VoIP equipment is the issue of internet failure dropping phone calls or interfering with incoming or outgoing calls.  However, the stability and safeguards a business can employ to prevent interruption of their broadband connection are improving all the time.

It’s about time for all rational people to welcome VoIP into their lives.
